Oklahoma!

Oklahoma!

There are many references to Oklahoma!, as you can see below.

  • The opening text of Cannibal!: "Upstaged by the overwhelming popularity of 'Oklahoma!', it's short-lived theater run was cancelled, and 'Alferd Packer: The Musical' soon fell into obscurity."
  • The credit sequence at the beginning was done in an Oklahoma!-style (and other Rodgers & Hammerstein productions) with the overture of all the songs.
  • The exclamation point in Cannibal! The Musical is quite possibly a reference to Oklahoma!
  • The opening songs, "Shpadoinkle" and "Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'" are very, very similar. Trey's funny little mouth movements at the end of "Shpadoinkle" are reminiscent of what Gordon MacRae (as Curly McLain) does at the end of "Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'."
  • The dream sequence in Cannibal! is a parody of/reference to the dream sequence in Oklahoma!
  • The embrace between Alferd and Polly was likely modeled after the embrace of Curly and Laurey.
  • "Probably the most important thing is that when things get really bad and the world looks its darkest, you just have to throw up your hands and say 'Well, alright!' cause it's probably gonna get a whole hell of a lot worse," is a line from Oklahoma!, except the last part is "things are gonna get better."
