The inspiration for Ravenous came from the story of Alferd Packer (e.g. a party of six, the guide was a military man, they ate their shoes, etc.). There is a scene where Private Reich says, "Let's go kill that bastard," - a possible reference to "Hang the Bastard" from Cannibal!
